Same vendor, same words, different product — and no upgrade path at all.

The defining translation

Business Central and D365 F&SCM share Microsoft branding and a great deal of vocabulary — companies, dimensions, posting, item ledgers — but they share no application runtime, extension model, organisation model or database upgrade path. Account determination is distributed across posting groups and setup matrices that must be re-expressed as posting profiles and account structures, Dimension Set IDs are surrogate keys that must never become target business keys, and C/AL and AL code has no mechanical route to X++. The trap is not difficulty; it is false familiarity.
